͏Bike is at my place in northern Maine and NOT AVAILIBLE FOR LOCAL PICKUP ANYWHERE .
Offering my Boulder CO racebike frame for someone into Vintage mtb builds as a cool part of history that you wouldn't be seeing around every corner, if at all, when built up.
COOL FEATURES:
1.A great teal metallic paint. It is very much aqua and not blue, best represented in the last photo of bb in daylight and in first photo indoors.
2. Beautiful wishbone seat and chainstays that were common to some steel frames of mid 90s(Like Ritchey, Bontrager, & others) when steel frames started to go to the wayside.
Not certain of it's year, as KHS catalogs were/are notoriously thin for reference. But considering Tiawanese built steel production frames w the curved wishbone stays were a thing in 94-97 era, and using the Asian serial number guide, I'm pretty confident it's a 95 or 96 model, and def Tiawan made as was the norm then...because the guide shows #format conforming to pathway of KHS , then to U(1)...and number on bike seen through the paint ,(being chipped off the entire frt lower of bb shell from a Rocky Mountain life) is U50207023: U being the unknown plant, 5 being last digit of yr, 02 being Feb, and remainder the production numbers confirming to the guide key.
3. Vintage looking font downtube & toptube graphics
4. A cool very narrow thin oval cross-section downtube that thins to a pointy edge on underside as it approaches headtube junction and being ovalized at junctions to make for stiffness and a fast accelerating feel jamming in the pedals. Frame has a nice light airy feel in hand for being a size large.
5. Patina of it's life enjoyed out West
Comes with properly functioning (likely original) seatpost, Vuelta lightweight leather saddle w aqua lettering on rails & saddle and the prerequisite rear edge tear (I'm thinking the rails look Mangaloy but not sure). I liked the matching saddle to the bike so it stayed.Has a new 68mm shell Shimano sealed cartridge bb of 122.5mm, the appropriate width for many 80s & 90s era common Shimano & jis triple cranksets. Take-off good condition original DiaCompe designed (at the time when Cane Creek aquired Dia Compe USA &cintinued the business) 1" threadless Aheadset cleaned,, serviced, and complete w crown race. Seals etc, but you supply your own topcap of preference.
20.5" seatube ctc or 62cm for 6 ft & taller folks
21 7/8" ctt
23 5/8" toptube ctc
1" headtube 123mm tall
68mm bb shell
130mm old rr axle spacing, but cold-setable at a shop narrower/wider
Top pull cable routing requiring top pull 28.6 dia frt derailleur on standard oversized (1 1/8" toptube etc) tubing throughout bike.
Rear tire clearance at chainstays sidewall contact point is 2.52", so likely 2.35 tire max.
